The Music

Somewhere along the line, I realized that some cool electronic synthwave music (one of my favorite genres as an 80s kid) was being played during some Netrunner game streams. This led to a bandcamp page for Tripp Mirror and his several albums of music inspired by the game.

Tripp Mirror

Tripp Mirror, in his own words, is a synth hoarder and cinematic synthwave producer from Belfast, Northern Ireland. He has made 8 albums about Netrunner to date and probably isn't going to stop. Which is great for the film, because it was an easy collab to chat with Tripp and get permission to use the music to soundtrack the documentary.

In all, we used portions of twenty tracks to sonically support the story. Some were quite obvious as to where they would go (titles, end of 2018 chapter, end of 2025 chapter) while the others were auditioned for other segments several times to find the ones that best fit. Some early viewers, not synthwave listeners, even called out the music as being a great fit. As the filmmaker, I think so as well.
